Sci-Fi Story Sparks: Random Science Fiction Writing Prompt Generator

Science fiction often begins with a question.

What if we could remember the future? What if an alien civilisation answered us? What if your memories could be copied, gravity became optional, corporations owned entire planets or humanity discovered that Earth was never really ours?

Sci-Fi Story Sparks is built to find the idea hiding on the other side of that question. Hit the generator and it will throw you somewhere unexpected: perhaps a distant planet, future technology, strange character, opening line, transmission, scientific discovery, social rule, conflict, plot twist or impossible event. Follow the first spark you get, combine several into something bigger, or keep experimenting until you find an idea you cannot resist exploring.

There is no single future hiding inside the generator. You could find yourself aboard a generation ship travelling between stars, beneath the neon of a corporate megacity, inside a laboratory rewriting human biology or in an ordinary home twenty years from now where one small technological change has transformed everyday life. The ideas stretch across space opera, hard science fiction, cyberpunk, biopunk, climate fiction, dystopian and utopian futures, alien contact, time travel, post-apocalyptic worlds, artificial intelligence, robotics, solarpunk and near-future speculative fiction.

Some sparks might become enormous stories about civilisations, planets or the fate of humanity. Others might become intensely personal stories about identity, memory, love, inequality, survival, consciousness or what it actually means to remain human when technology can change almost everything else.
